Realtors Recommend: Home Search Sites

Like anything in real estate you have a lot of choices: Realtors, lenders, homes, etc. The process can be overwhelming and if you're not careful, you can end up with the entire industry knocking at your door (or in your inbox).

So how do you get the information you need, not only when you need it, but when you WANT it? The internet can still be your friend in this process- here's how.

The bottom line is that all sites are now in the business of collecting your information. In this post we'll discuss a few of the websites at your disposal so you can decide what works best for you.

4) Homes.com, Trulia.com, and the like....

These websites are aspiring to reach the level of Zillow or Realtor.com- some of them are even subsidiaries. Do they do the job? Sure. You can find information on homes that are listed. HOWEVER, a lot of the information is inaccurate or out of date.

Typically, we do not recommend these sites as you primary home search source. We don't like to tell you that the dream home in the link you just sent us sold six months ago.

We give these sites a đź‘Ž thumbs down.

3) Zillow.com

As Realtors, many of us have a love hate relationship with Zillow. Like the sites above it can be rife with outdated information. We would also NEVER recommend that you trust the Zestimate- 99% of the time it simply isn't accurate. (If you want a market analysis on your home we do it for free! Just give us a call.)

We do have to give Zillow props for some things that it does really well. Zillow is a hot spot for For Sale By Owner and rental listings. Owners are able to use the site very effectively. We still recommend listing your home with a licensed agent as they often sell more quickly and at a higher price, but if you are desperately searching for a home this can be a great resource.

As an agent, Christina Walton has sold two of those For Sale By Owner listings to clients who thought they would never find a home they would like.

Additionally, Zillow is great for finding out more about your agent. Agent profiles on this site are far more active than most of its competitors.

2) Realtor.com

The reason that Realtor.com takes the number 2 spot on this post is simple: it updates every 15 minutes. Something you may or may not realize about these sites is that they are directly linked to the area MLS. That means that Realtor.com is checking the MLS every 15 minutes for new listings, price drops, under contracts, etc.

This is especially important when you are in a hot market and you want to be the first one in a property.

A Realtor is still your #1 source for pre listed/new properties, but Realtor.com does a great job keeping you updated as well!

1) waltonhomesteam.com (or your Realtor's website)

Talk about a shameless plug, but it's true!

Hear us out- as stated earlier- every single one of these websites is trying to collect your information to sell to a Realtor or lender or whoever. That is why you get prompted to sign up. And if you want to save properties? You have to sign up.

At some point you are going to end up with multiple agents, lenders, and whoevers calling, texting, emailing you.

If you register with us we can contact you (and help you!) as much or as little as you desire. Unlike the "big box" sites, we don't operate with a call center. We can directly control what kinds of emails and calls you get because it is just us. Now isn't that refreshing?
